Steel Guitar & Lap Steel Lessons
Steel guitar is a method of playing any guitar, developed in Hawaii in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A normal guitar is usually positioned horizontally; strings are plucked with one hand, while the other hand changes the pitch of one or more strings with the use of a bar or slide called a steel (generally made of metal, but also of glass or other materials). The guitar usually needs the nut raised with a temporary raiser and heavier than normal gauge strings. I carry the parts needed to convert any guitar for steel guitar style playing.
A Lap steel guitar is a type of steel guitar specifically made for the purpose of playing steel guitar style and can be seen in the picture above. The steel guitar and lap steel both sound great playing Hawaiian, country, blues, and contemporary artists such as Ben Harper and John Butler.
