Kids, this is what a proper turntable looks like. I’ve tried a few new turntables but these newfangled USB things are toys. If you want to hear what a record should really sound like, go for a turntable like this. It should have weights and manual settings. This one even has a strobe light to make sure the record is spinning at exactly the right speed. Only $250 on eBay. Viva la vinyl! Or as they say today, “black is back”!

It’s been interesting to see a return in popularity of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to students’ lessons. Both guitar and bass students have picked up on the fine musicianship involved in playing their music. Perhaps its a sign of something lacking in the current marketplace? Great to see my students really challenging themselves!
