Classical Guitar Lessons

Overview

The classical guitar or Spanish guitar is the member of the guitar family used in classical music. It is an acoustical wooden guitar with strings made of nylon, rather than the metal strings used in acoustic and electric guitars. The traditional classical guitar has twelve frets clear of the body and is held on the left leg, so that the hand that plucks or strums the strings does so near the back of the sound-hole (this is called the classical position).

Repertoire

To study for pleasure, students may choose anything from the standard classical and Spanish guitar repertoire, including broader styles such as ancient music, flamenco, Brazilian, Cuban, and contemporary works. Classical guitar classes would include a technical and theoretical component to support playing and musicianship following the AMEB technical study guidelines.

AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board)

For the more serious student or those wishing to attain accreditation, the AMEB offers graded examinations in classical guitar and we can follow this path.
